Who We Are
Charlotte Shefras
Registered Nurse (PgDip) | BA (Hons) Applied Education Studies

With a unique background spanning both healthcare and education, I bring a level of safety and developmental insight rarely found in a home setting.

My career began in education as a Senior Teaching Assistant in a Special Needs school (4 years), where I utilised my degree in Applied Education Studies to support complex learning needs.

I later retrained as a nurse, gaining experience in high-pressure environments including Major Trauma, Palliative Care and School Nursing.

What this means for you:

  • Medical Safety: From allergies to bumps and scrapes, my background in Major Trauma and School Nursing means your child is in the safest possible hands.

  • Developmental Focus: SEN and education background allows me to spot developmental milestones early and tailor activities to your child’s specific learning style.

With a rich blend of personal and professional experience, I bring a calm confidence that comes from living this world every day.  That lived experience strengthens everything I do in my professional practice.

Across my 16 year nursery career, I’ve supported children from babies through to preschoolers. My knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) influences my ability to create safe, engaging, and developmentally rich spaces.

What this means for you:

  • Practical Expertise: Years of nursery experience means I  confidently support children through every stage - from sensory exploration to early literacy and school‑readiness skills.

  • Play With Purpose: My speciality is in creating messy, imaginative, and educational play environments that spark curiosity, whilst building the foundations children need to thrive.

How We Develop

Our approach is highly child-led and play-based, following each child’s interests while gently supporting their next steps in learning. Whether through imaginative play, stories, creative activities, outdoor adventures or daily routines, we create meaningful opportunities for children to develop confidence, independence and curiosity.

We work in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), supporting all seven areas of learning in ways that feel fun, engaging and age-appropriate. With two qualified practitioners present, we are able to closely observe, support and nurture each child’s development, including children with additional needs.

We believe strong partnerships with parents are key. By sharing observations, celebrating achievements and communicating openly, we ensure learning continues seamlessly between home and our setting. Upon joining with us, your child will be allocated a key worker.

A key worker is a named adult who takes primary responsibility for your child’s care and learning while they are with us. Their role is to help your child feel safe, secure and settled by building a strong, trusting relationship.

Each child will have a key worker who:

  • Supports their emotional wellbeing and development

  • Observes, plans and tracks their learning in line with the EYFS

  • Carries out daily care routines such as nappy changes, meals and sleep where possible

  • Shares regular updates with parents and carers

As a small, home-from-home setting, children naturally build close relationships with the adults caring for them. The key worker system simply ensures there is one main point of contact for your child, while still allowing flexibility and consistency of care. We work closely together as a team to make sure all children’s needs are met, and parents can speak to either of us at any time.
